Having already cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard Dance Charts ‘Pretty Mess’ by Breakout Pop Dance sensation Ericka Jayne, was produced by heavy hitters Peter Rafelson (Madonna, Britney Spears, Stevie Nicks) and Eric Kupper (Shakira, Destiny’s Child, Kylie Minogue) and is complemented perfectly with stellar guest production by Esthero and Jahi Lake (Chris Brown), under the name Pinklake, and Ike Dirty (Lil’ Scrappy,Ying Yang Twinz), son of the legendary Isaac Hayes. Jayne also receives help from celebrated percussionist Sheila E on the track “Time to Realize” .
Described as “disco balls, ecstasy, pearls, Studio 54, sex, crystal chandeliers, Purple Rain and crème brûlée whipped in a blender and made into a delicious pop-dance musical confection”, Erikca Jayne is the pop solution for those who like thier dance music lite and fun.
‘Pretty Mess’ has a distinct sound that is easy on the ears, that crosses dance tastes that everyone can groove to on the dance floor. I am biased towards the very strong dance track “Give You Everything”, which opened my eyes to Ms. Jayne in the first place, or I should say “turned me on” as she is very easy on the eyes or basically just downright hot !
The album is the vision and style of Erika combining already noticed tracks like “Rollercoaster” but also gives homage to the obvious influences of Prince, and his own protege’s Vanity (‘Pretty Mess” was a popular single from girl group Vanity 6) and Appolonia 6 with the cover of “Sex Shooter” ( which is still one of my favorites), and you can hear the infused influence of “rhythmic pop and dreamy electronica” throughout the album.

Tracks from Pretty Mess have also made their way to the big screen. “Roller Coaster” appeared in Deal featuring Burt Reynolds, while “Stars” has a cameo in The Pools Boys, an upcoming comedy from the director of American Pie 2 with Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite) and Matthew Lillard (Scream). “I Lose Myself” and “Just a Phase” were also included in the 2008 romantic comedy The Neighbor, starting Matthew Modine and Michelle Laroque.
“Pretty Mess” is fun, yet it also grooves well with a number of tracks that are prime for re-mixing to cross over into heavier styles of dance or Trance Music. It oozes sexy female dance pop all over the place, but it had me playing it more than once, and even backtracking to hear tracks over again. As a child of the 80′s, 90′s Dance Music, and a proud fan of Pop Dance Music Artist like Madonna, “Pretty Mess” is a solid tribute to fun Dance Music that can be enjoyed by everyone, yet it holds very well on the more serious Dance floors of today.
