Using Amazon MP3 Review and Tutorial

In just a few short years, Amazon has jumped many of the main players in music downloads to stand #2 next to the market leader iTunes, and closing. Amazon MP3 has a higher bit rate for it’s DRM Free Downloads, and a catalog of 3.3 million and growing.

Now with news of the eminent launch of Amazon MP3 for the U.K. market Amazon seems to be taking position in the coveted European market.

Being an avid fan of Dance Music, (Trance and House), when I check out a music download service, one of the first things I do is check to see what the catalog of Dance Music is like. If they are neglecting this area, then they are of no use to me, and are probably lacking in some other way, and I won’t go any further.

Amazons catalog of Dance Music Artists and DJ’s is impressive to say the least, and growing daily. Over the last few months, every Artist and new release that I have featured on my Dance Music Magazine, has been available at Amazon in both CD, and MP3 format.

Amazon also powers my Dance Music and Audio Store, The Club Life Shop, which up until now, was limited to mostly CD versions of the wide catalog of dance music, but now the MP3 Download section simply requires a search to find MP3 downloads of every genre and preference.

Test Number one-Passed !

To Download Music from Amazon, you will need their downloader. Nothing out of the ordinary, all music services require software. I am already an iTunes user, and I am anticipating importing the files into iTunes after download.

Select the album or single that you would like to purchase, and if you don’t have the downloader already you will be automatically directed to get it. If you are not sure if you are purchasing the right music, or are “window shopping”, you can listen to excerpts of each individual track from their massive music collection.

Installing the Amazon Downloader took about 30 seconds. Nice !

Next is the purchase page where you pay for the music. I already have an account with Amazon, so it was simply a matter of typing in my CC number. If you have never purchased anything from Amazon, they will just ask for basic information, and shipping address for future purchases

Payment is quick. This particular album was $9.99, but Amazon frequently has downloads single downloads for .89 cents, and just recently launched a “Friday 5” promotion where make 5 albums available for download for $5 each.

Downloading the album took about 3 minutes. Not bad considering I was getting 10 tracks, and using a wireless card modem.

As the music was downloading, I noticed that it was automatically importing into iTunes for me. Sweet !

That’s it ! As a first time user, I had just purchased and downloaded a new complete album from Amazon, automatically imported into iTunes, (It will also do the same for Window Media Player) and was playing the music in about 5 minutes.

Completely painless and a big 2 thumbs up from me.

The album I purchased was a new release of Starkillers Ft Austin Leeds, “Nervous Nitelife: Vegas“. Here is a little taste if you’re curious.
